What Is Complex Trauma?
Complex trauma or complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is the result of a series of traumatic events or experiences. These experiences have a cumulative effect and build upon each other. Moreover, they tend to occur within limited circumstances that prevent a person from healing in between the trauma-inducing events. Complex trauma can be difficult to diagnose, because those suffering it can lose the memory of the events that caused it. Symptoms of complex trauma can include feelings of guilt, shame, isolation, and helplessness, as well as suicidal ideation and feelings of self-harm.
How Can Overland IOP Help With Complex Trauma?
At Overland IOP, we use techniques including talk therapy, exposure therapy, EMDR, psychotherapy, and medication management to help a person address and manage their experience of cumulative trauma so that they can begin to heal from it.
